There are coordinators and leaders in the sense of people taking responsibility for what needs to be done and coordinating activities, now there may be signs of something more. While still recovering from the attacks of the pro-government, government proxy forces, the protestors are selecting 25 well known Egyptian personalities to work out a new government. This list includes Amr Moussa, the secretary general of the Arab League, the Nobel prize-winner Ahmed Zuwail, an Egyptian-American who has advised President Barack Obama and 23 other equally respected Egyptians, some still being worked out. This is being done at Tahrir Square as well as facebook, twitter, etc…
The move to select leaders of a de facto new government represents a growing up of the movement from just saying no to Mubarak to actively saying yes to something else. The group would include representatives from most of Egypt’s’ stakeholders including both the intellectual elite and the masses. The first task envisioned for this group would be the drafting of a new constitution for the nation. Notably absent is the Muslim Brotherhood, often pointed to as the reason to support Mubarak, justifying America’s backing of a despotic tyrant. Better the dictator you know rather than the “Islamic extremist” you don’t.
