Al Qaeda members are hiding in Brazil, planning attacks, raising funds and recruiting followers, Reuters reported April 2, citing a report in the online edition of news magazine Veja. The magazine said that at least 20 people with ties to al Qaeda, Lebanon’s Hezbollah and the Palestinian group Hamas, among other organizations, have been hiding out in Brazil. The operatives have been raising funds and working to encourage attacks abroad. The Veja report cited U.S. government reports and Brazilian police but gave no details on specific targets or operations.
